Beep! Buzz! Ring! Ding! Tweet! And so goes the sounds of our daily lives. We are constantly being bombarded by a seemingly endless stream of texts, phone calls, instant messaging, video conferencing, and social media postings. The digital age has given us the ability to communicate instantly and globally all while providing us with a slew of modern conveniences in the form of smart phones, laptops, tablets, and more. But, in the wake of it’s path it has left some obvious distractions to us all. It’s enough to give anyone a headache. So what to do?! How about planning a weekly family Game Night where everyone can get together, Unplug and Unwind!

Gathering together with family and friends – it’s where the phrase “social networking” may in fact have been originally created. The world has gotten so loud and so fast these days that it’s more important than ever to take time out, unplug, and to spend quality, uninterrupted time together without the intrusion of beeping or buzzing cell phones or tablets. Where to begin? Just pick a night, gather up your family and friends, and plan a good old fashioned game night with no cell phones, social media, or tablets allowed. The only other things you’ll need are some games and of course, the perfect place to sit and play!

The dining room table – it’s so much more than just a place to eat and dine although it is certainly that. You gather around it to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays, it can double as your office desk and a place for your kids to do their homework, it’s an extra prep space for making those family meals, and it becomes an art studio for arts and crafts time. So what better place to hold family game night then right at the kitchen or dining room table? For accommodating a larger group comfortably, a large dining table and comfortable chairs is perfect. For a small group, get in close with a cozy kitchen set or even a nice island and stools. These are great options as you are close to the snacks and usually it’s an area where accidents and spills clean up easy!

Pub height tables are often found in entertaining areas like a man cave, game room, or finished basement. The tallest option, they provide a friendly and casual atmosphere for gaming as guests will be seated more closely to one another around the table. Pub height tables are perfect for adult game nights with friends.

Another great option for your family game night is simply sitting on your sofa or sectional or even lounging on the floor around a cocktail or coffee table.  You can even consider a coffee table with drawers or storage compartments to house all of your games for an unplugged, family game night! Or – maybe an oversize ottoman is your family’s game night table of choice.

Your furniture plays an important role in a successful game night full of bonding and fun with family and friends. Remember to slow down, unplug, and get ready for game night with help from Rotmans.
