Holiday Gatherings

Planning the Ultimate Holiday Gathering? Be sure to focus on the F’s: family, friends, food, and Furniture! Follow this path and your party is certain to be FANTASTIC!

Table Talk

The dining room table has become the essential piece of furniture for all celebrations. In fact, it is the quintessential image of the entire holiday season – family & friends gathered around the dining room table. The table is the centerpiece, whether it will be used to celebrate milestones such as your first holiday in your new house or apartment, or you are carrying on a family tradition of hosting in your home. The table is a reflection of you and your home. Maybe it’s a traditional table that was handed down from a loved relative, or maybe it’s a brand new custom designed table that you designed just for special holidays like this – whatever it is, the memories at that table are sure to be good.

Prep, Serving, and Seating Space

Preparing a holiday meal is not like your everyday meals. There’s never enough prep space, serving space or seats to go around! Functional pieces can certainly help make the holiday meals easier to prepare and enjoy! Islands make for handy prep space. If you have the room, adding a piece like this gives you storage and work space in one convenient piece of furniture. Are you lucky enough to have room for a kitchen table as well as a dining room table? If so, a counter height or gathering table in the kitchen can be used as an extra prep space for slicing and dicing veggies or preparing dips and other special treats. A counter/gathering height table is also an excellent spot to place and serve appetizers and desserts particularly since it provides a perfect conversation and gathering area for guests due to its height as the table stands about waist high. Counter height tables can easily be paired with appropriate chairs as well and used as an extra seating area – perhaps as a classic “kids table” for dinner. Dining room tables that can be extended are always helpful for holiday entertaining. Self-storing leafs have made the transition process easier than ever. A couple of corner chairs and you’ve got an easy way to grow the number of family members your table can accommodate. Whether you have a family style sit down dinner or fend-for-yourself buffet style, an outstanding option for serving food, snacks, beverages, appetizers and desserts is a buffet table, dining room server, or a sideboard cabinet; perhaps one outfitted for holding glassware, wine glasses, and/or even wine bottles. With cabinets, shelving, and drawers, all provide ample space for storing flatware, dinnerware, plates, bowls, glassware and other dining accessory essentials for all the holidays.

Kick-Back and relax!

Your living room and family room furniture will play a key role in having a happy holiday. Take some time to relax after scrambling to get the meal started and the prep work complete. Snuggle in for a bit with little ones as they enjoy watching their favorite holiday movies. Maybe you’re lucky enough to have a football team looking at a playoff run and your guests will need a comfy seat waiting for the clinch. Holidays are about making memories after all. Whatever your family does to celebrate the holiday season, young and old family and friends will want to lounge for a bit after feasting on the holiday meal. Comfortable sectionals or sofas and chairs will become the post meal seating perfect for visiting and relaxing.

At the end of the day you could have more than just leftover food to deal with, you may be hosting overnight guests that have traveled from out-of-town or far away to celebrate with you. Guest bedrooms are great but even a sleeper sofa, day bed, or futon would be a welcomed solution. Spending time with your loved ones is the most important thing and any effort to make overnight guests feel welcome will be appreciated.

While it is likely overlooked, your furniture is an integral part of all of your celebrations. From gathering around the dining room table for dinner to lounging on the couch to watch your favorite holiday movies or even some football, creating holiday memories to last a lifetime couldn’t be done without your furniture. All of us here at Rotmans are happy and proud to have played a small part in your celebrations in years past, and we look forward to continuing to serve you and being part of your holiday memories for years to come. Happy Holidays everyone!
